About us

I had an interest in making things at a young age while growing up on a dairy farm. Then, the tools I had available to me were few and crude. I enjoyed shop class in high school and later graduated from Eastern Kentucky University. From there, I bought and operated a sawmill for three years. I still miss the smell of the green logs being sawn, sometimes being showered by a wet mist from a 52” blade sawing through a log high in moisture.

From there I moved on to work in a custom furniture shop a few years before opening my own custom furniture shop in 1986. I designed and built custom furniture for 24 years. Those 24 years had a monetary value but what I cherish the most was having the most wonderful customer base, some turning into lasting friendships. In 2014,  I began a new direction, designing and making a smaller line of products.

My shop name, Fine Wine Caddy comes from my first and original product, the wine caddy. From there I expanded into several kitchen utensils and many other functional home décor products, wall and tabletop, for every room.

In my adventure as a designer and craftsman, I cannot forget my wife, Tuya, my support, encouragement and my reason. She is also very good at critiquing new designs and providing support in many area’s of the business, critiquing new designs, finishing, packing and shipping.

And then there is my younger brother Wally who has been in the shop with me for 30 years. A master builder, finisher, has an impeccable talent for quality in all areas of producing and finishing products.

I like designing and making things that are new to the market, things that grabs ones attention at first glance. In the transition from furniture to smaller items, I maintain the same high standards present in the furniture built over the years. I believe that craftsmanship goes far beyond the manipulation of one’s hands and tools– it’s a state of mind that is never satisfied with nothing less than excellence.

In some of my designs, the overall shape speaks the loudest, in others its the wood selection. I love beautiful hardwoods and some of the exotic woods. No two boards ever seem to be the same. When I plane a rough board, exposing the real beauty and characteristics of it, a decision is then made as to which product it best lends itself to. Its almost like it has a voice.
